OUR STORY
Picton Wholesale Meats was founded by Charlie Hitchings in 1965 at just 24 years of age.
Charlie began his career in the meat industry, working in a factory in Alexandria. After discovering he could rent a bay at the old Homebush Abattoir and cold stores at an affordable rate, he borrowed $5,000 from his uncle to get
started—and as they say, the rest is history.
The business is currently owned and operated by Charlie’s son, Craig Hitchings.
Craig began his journey as a butcher’s apprentice in 1993. After a short break working in other industries, he rejoined the family business in 2001 when the operation moved to Picton. He has been with the company ever since, taking
over as Director in 2020.
Today, Picton Wholesale Meats is as strong as ever. It has a dedicated team committed to continually improving our systems, supply, and customer experience.
